President Monkfish - Monkfish from the british TV show The Fast Show, he's always in charge - so to give him more control I made him a president.
Jimminy Mc Christmas - An exclamation of shock and suprise, coupled with the fact that he is Santa incarnate.
Jimminy Jones - Again, an exclamation of shock and suprise.
Ben Nevis Jr - A novice following in the footsteps of Scotland's highest peak.

Haha I'm not original at all but all my character's names are from the Silmarillon from JRR Tolkien:

Maedhros The Cursed: Maedhros, son of Feanor greatest of the elves

Curufin The Cursed: Again same from above.

Maglor The Cursed: Again same from above.

Olorin The Grey: Olorin is the real name of Gandalf, he is assigned to
Manwë i think. A Mayar.

Melkor Mindreaver: My mesmer, the name is obvious, Melkor is a powerful Ainur or Valar whatever and he changed his name to Morgoth when Feanor(or some other important elf) named him like that. He's the boss of Sauron only a Mayar.

Minion of Morgoth: Bah my Necromancer the explanation is above.

Beren The Deathless: My monk. Bah Beren isn't really "monkbased" but he is the one who marry Luthien and get the Silmarils back from the crown of Morgoth. He is deathless by the power of the Silmarils.

Beren The Fearless: My monk. Same as above.

Curse of Mandos: May be anyone. Mandos is the messenger from Manwë who cursed Feanor and all his family and all who participated to the killing of the elves between them and all who passed the sea to be in the Middle Earth.(Manwë blocked the way to the elves to get back to their super nice island in the sea. Some elves were forgiven for their tasks in the Middle Earth like Olorin(Gandalf but he isnt actually an elf), Galadriel, Elrond and some others.) Thats why the name of Maglor The Cursed and etc etc etc are named like that; they are from the Feanor's family.

Finfolfin, Feanor, Fingon, Felagund, and some others name i use sometime when i feel like it.

~Maedhros

Legolas Nolan
My 1st Character after I had just purchased the game I named after watching LOTR...so I made a Ranger and of course named him Legolas....something I would change but he's now my maxed char....Nolan is the last name on all my characters...something to identify me. Nolan is the last name from a character in a series of sci-fi books I read. I use Nolan on all the Forums that I visit. Everyone else's first names were just random male names that I liked.

Lance Nolan - Elementalist
Beau Nolan - Warrior
Derek Nolan - Mesmer

Elinora Ne Sangre - Sangre is pretty obvious; cliche, but it ended up looking cool (sangre is from the latin word for blood). When I'd first played GW, it was during the Factions PvP weekend. I'd created an assassin named Rildran Ne Agrene (I don't know why, it just came to me), and Ne came from that. Elinora... well, for lack of a better way to explain it, I looked at the picture of her and just knew she was Elinora. I'm dorky that way.

My Monk, Imden Salmalda, came from me playing with a random fantasy name generator and fiddling with it until the name fit him.

This site is good for generating names: http://rinkworks.com/namegen/ Usually I have to fiddle with it a lot, but it's good when I need something different than what my brain tends to come up with on it's own.

Monk, Mu Adib- intentional mispelling of the character Muad'dib from sci-fi novel "Dune"

Mesmer, Cahira Aigneis- Warrior pure (Gaelic)

Warrior, Tana Fangatua- Tana after the famous All Black (New Zealand rugby team) Tana Umaga and Fangatua means wrestle in Samoan.

Forgive me if I made a mistake, it was a while ago I made these names.

Well one day I decided to rearrange the letters of my name to form Majes (guess what my name is :S) Anyways I needed a first name for my char, and just came up with Phaern. I think I choose it cause I like words that have ph and ae combos in them.

My character names are just taken from a list of psychological disorders, no depth and no hidden meaning, although you can make one and work a pun for any name if you wanted. If this thread wanted a "hidden" meaning, it would be all the disorders I've accused my brain of having.

As soon as you throw the word hypochondria in to the mess of names, everything becomes irrelevant.

My Dervish name is Aello Bremusa based on Greek mythology.

Aello is the name of a demon harpy whose name means "Stormswift" or whirlwind.

http://wordinfo.info/unit/41/s:a%20llo

Bremusa is the name of one of the 12 Amazonian warriors in Greek Mythology. It means "Raging Female".

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bremusa

Together they mean "Whirlwind Raging Female". She looks kind of like that as she swings her scythe.

6 of them are named after the Tyrian gods.

Their 'surname' matches the god, and the name a Mythical Earth god.
- W Babd Nic Balthazar.
- R Flidais Di Melandru
- N Hel Grenthdottir.
- Amaterasu Dwaynakin
- Me Maya Lyssandis
- P Nidaba Ibn Kormir

The rest are named after characters in things I wrote.

Sephiro Maximus - Combination of "Sephiroth" (FFVII) and the dude from Gladiator.

Nanami Himemiya - Combination of names of two characters from Revolutionary Girl Utena.

Cecilly Moncrief - I'm an Oscar Wilde fan.

Kristina Asininia - My best friend in highschool plus a nominalized "asinine".

Hooded Vengeance - Wanted a cool name for a Dervish.

Bran Ravenking - I'm a huge fan of Stephen Lawhead's King Raven Trilogy, and Rhi Bran, Bran ap Brychan were both taken.

Martin Cloudfist - All of the Monk stuff reminds me of the sky (by color, shape, etc.) so I figured Cloud-FIST would be cool for a Smiter.

Silence And Despair - my Paragon (ironic, but I didn't know anything about Paragons upon creation), created after I failed my first midterm in school.

Shield Of The Realm - my Dervish, based on one of my favorite Magic: The Gathering cards, Sustainer Of The Realm.

Im Hard As Rock - my Elementalist, self explanatory name, matching with an old friend whom I no longer speak with.

Cascade Caradoc - my Mesmer, Cascade is a name from a book I read, Caradoc is a knight of the round table.

Those are really the main ones I'm fond of, some may transfer over to GW 2, but not sure

I create my toons as characters. All of them have a personal story within Tyria. I like to use names in various languages: ancient greek, russian, english (Proph) chinese and japanese (Factions), arab (for NF), depending on the part of the world they come from.

The meaning of some of them are:

Savagery Undefeated : Warrior
Ice/Cold Princess : Necromancer
Jewel : Paragon
Pious Lion: Dervish
Firstborn of the Greatwest: Sin
Red Lotus: Mes
..

guess i was just demented when naming chars.

1st. female Ele. -Woman In Heat -was trying to think of a name that would be funny when you click on anothers char-such as "I am following Woman In Heat" and i also thought it went with Nuker(Fire).

2nd. female Ele on other account i named Mutha Naitcha Biach -guess cause the ele uses the four elements Air,Water,Fire,Earth-just like ole mutha nature.

War. Dragun Bonur -Ummm Errr get your mind out of the gutter,he does not bone dragons the way u are thinking- he slays them-not lays them

Necro- D E T N E M R O T - yes that is TORMENTED speld Backerdz

Monk -Billy Bandaid- got idea from term "Billy Badazz" of course i had to think of someting to do with healing so i came up with Bandaid. He is a Badazz Healer.

Female Necro -Hagg Onda Ragg- the action of the necro when the necro rez's minions reminded me of how my old lady looks and reacts when its "That Time of The Month"(PMS) and she has a problem with me not doing something she asked in a timely manner because i am Playing GW. "a Hag on the rag "

I always get brain freeze when it comes to naming characters:

1. Burger Beard - It was my first character and I wanted something funny.

2. Hotdog Mustache - I thought the combination of meat and facial hair was kinda funny.

3. Bacon Sideburns - Okay... after 3 I changed things up.

4. Shiros Love Child - I love using this toon when Imperial Sanctum is the Z-Mission and right before Shiro gets killed, I yell "DADDY, NO!!!!!"

5. Charr With Guns - Made this in anticipation for GW2.

  1. Shadow Relyk - Warrior: I use the Shadow prefix because my cat was named Duncan, which meant "Black Shadow" on a baby name site. Relyk is my real name backwards.
  2. Shadow Sapphire - Elementalist: I originally wanted Shadow Ruby because she was a Fire Elementalist, my favorite color is blue and Shadow Sapphire was available. I did try Emerald and Ruby prior, a slight reference to Ocarina of Time.
  3. Shadow Rioc - Monk: Rioc is a word a called up whenever I couldn't use Relyk. I like it because it sounds similar to Riot and Roc.
  4. Shadow Gandiva - Ranger: Gandiva is a legendary bow of a Hindu epic. Look on Wikipedia.
  5. Shadow Cythe - Dervish - Scythe => Cythe
  6. Shadow Knifes - Assassin - Knives => Knifes
  7. Shadow Ellven - ritualist: Ellven is a name used by my brother for his IGNs, Typically Ellven Arrow.
  8. Shadow Zana - Mesmer: Zana Storm was an old friend that was a leader of a guild in the alliance in the early days of Guildwars.
  9. Shadow of Living - Necromancer: Normal abuse of the Shadow prefix.
